"If elected, I will continue to work transparently, professionally, and collaboratively on behalf of our students, parents, and broader community to ensure that our schools provide the very best of what our community has to offer. I've spoken with a number of community members about the issues that are important to them and how I can best support them. If you have an issue that is important to you and others in our community, please don't hesitate to contact me."
We have to do everything we can to keep our students safe at school, from making sure our schools are continuously revisiting and improving their school safety plans and providing them with the necessary resources to execute those plans, to making sure that students feel safe at school and that bullying is never okay, to making sure we are supporting our students' mental health and well being.
Supporting our Teachers
We need to work hard to attract and retain talented teachers in Windsor. We also need to make sure we recognize and hold our teachers in high regard. Growing up in a family where no one had gone to college, teachers were the most educated and often the only professionals that I was routinely exposed to. A great teacher makes a big difference. I pledge to be open, transparent, and collaborative throughout the entire budget process, particularly with regard to salary decisions.
Music and the Arts
It's past time to fully integrate arts and music into our school curriculum offerings. While securing funding for arts and music programs is challenging, I will support community driven solutions and work towards securing permanent and sustainable funding for programs in music and the arts.
Equity in Education
Our schools are most successful when they provide many different avenues for student growth and excellence. This means making sure we are providing all of our students with the opportunity to excel, encouraging students to challenge themselves, and recognizing many forms of student success. We must ensure that all students have the opportunity to excel, regardless of background, ethnicity, or socioeconomic status.
We live in an amazing multi-generational community with a long history of engagement in our public schools. We need to continue to involve the broader community, even folks without school aged children in our schools. Local organizations, such as the Windsor Educational Foundation, which I am currently a part of, can provide an avenue for increased community engagement. We also need to make sure that our school board members work closely with other local elected officials, like the Windsor Town Council, to ensure that we are doing everything possible to support our students and schools.
